The New Covenant Replaces the Old Covenant - Observations

       Hebrews 8:7-8,13  - If  there had been nothing wrong with that first covenant, no place would have been sought for another. But God found fault with the people and said: "The time is coming, declares the Lord, when I will make a new covenant with the house of Israel and with the house of Judah . . . By calling this covenant "new," he has made the first one obsolete; and what is obsolete and aging will soon disappear.

       2 Corinthians 3:6-7, 11 He has made us competent as ministers of a new covenant-- not of the letter [old covenant] but of the Spirit; for the letter kills, but the Spirit gives life. 7 Now if the ministry that brought death, which was engraved in letters on stone, came with glory, so that the Israelites could not look steadily at the face of Moses because of its glory, fading though it was . . . 11 And if what was fading away came with glory, how much greater is the glory of that which lasts!

       Ephesians 2:14-16 - For he himself is our peace, who has made the two one and has destroyed the barrier, the dividing wall of hostility, by abolishing in his flesh the law with its commandments and regulations. His purpose was to create in himself one new man out of the two, thus making peace, and in this one body to reconcile both of them to God through the cross

       Colossians 2:14-16 - having canceled the written code, with its regulations, that was against us and that stood opposed to us; he took it away, nailing it to the cross . . . Therefore do not let anyone judge you by what you eat or drink, or with regard to a religious festival, a New Moon celebration or a Sabbath day. These are a shadow of the things that were to come; the reality, however, is found in Christ.

       In Summary, the New Testament writers tell us that the Old Covenant, including all of its parts (laws) which was:

       Is now:

     “Obsolete”

     “Abolished”

     “Cancelled”

       The Old Covenant has been replaced with a new and better covenant whose glory will never fade!

     Hebrews 8:6b - [Jesus is] the mediator of a better covenant, which has been enacted on better promises. [NASB]

     Hebrews 8:13a - By calling this covenant "new," he has made the first one obsolete;
