Romans 1:1-7 - Outline and Summary

        Paul  (Romans 1:1)

       Was a servant (slave) of Christ Jesus,

       Was called to be an apostle (sent on a definite mission with full authority)

       Was set apart by God to proclaim His Gospel (Good News)

 

        The Gospel (Romans 1:2)

       Was promised beforehand by God

         through His prophets (inspired spokesmen)

         in the Old Testament Scriptures

       Is about God’s Son Jesus,

 

        Jesus (Romans 1:3-4)

       Is God’s Son (co-equal with God the Father)

       In His human nature was a descendant of David,

       Was declared with power to be the Son of God when the Holy Spirit raised Him  from the dead

       Is our

         Savior (Jesus)

         Messiah (Christ)

         Master (Lord)

 

        It was through Jesus (and for His name's sake) that Paul had received grace and his apostolic office, the purpose of which was to bring Gentiles to the obedience that comes through faith. (Romans 1:5)

 

        The Romans (to whom Paul was writing) (Romans 1:6-7a)

       Are among those (Gentiles) who are called to belong to Jesus Christ

       Are loved by God

       Are called to be saints (those who were called out of the world to belong to God)

 

        Paul’s Greeting to the Romans: Grace and peace (Romans 1:7b)

       From God our Father

       and from the Lord Jesus Christ.
