Romans 4:7 – “blessed” (Greek: makarioj - makarios)

•        Romans 4:6-8 - David says the same thing [in Psalm 32:1-2] when he speaks of the blessedness of the man to whom God credits righteousness apart from works:

–      "Blessed are they whose transgressions are forgiven, whose sins are covered.

–      Blessed is the man whose sin the Lord will never count against him."

•        The word translated “blessed” can also be translated “happy”, “to be congratulated” or “to be envied”. To be blessed is to be in a state of spiritual prosperity.

•        We could paraphrase this verse to say:

–       David congratulates the man and pronounces a blessing on him to whom God credits righteousness apart from the works he does. Blessed and happy and to be envied are those whose iniquities are forgiven and whose sins are covered up and completely buried.
