Romans
8 is considered by many scholars
to be one of the greatest chapters in all of Gods Word.
If the the Holy Scriptures were a
ring and the Epistle to the Romans its precious stone, chapter eight would be
the sparkling point of the jewel. (Spener)
The Holy Spirit is referred to more frequently in this
chapter than in any other chapter of the Bible - a total of 19 times (an
average of once every two
verses). The closest competitor, 1
Corinthians 12, mentions the Holy Spirit
an average of once every three
verses!
Chapter eight,
however, is not about
the Holy Spirit Himself, but is
about what the Holy Spirit does for
believers.
In a word, the
Holy Spirit gives believers assurance - thus the
theme of this chapter is the security of the believer in Christ.
The chapter begins with a proclamation
that there is no
condemnation for those who are in Christ
The chapter ends with a proclamation
that nothing can separate
us from the love of God
