Romans 2:16 - The Day When God Will Judge Men's Secrets 

Romans 2:16 - This will take place on the day when God will judge men's secrets through Jesus Christ, as my gospel declares.

 

•        After telling us the standard by which the Jew and the Gentile will be judged, Paul tells us this judgement will take place on a day, yet future. 

 

•        Paul tells us that on that day God will judge men’s secrets

–       Through Jesus Christ

–       As the Gospel that Paul Preached Declares

•         Note that the gospel includes both good news and bad news

•         The “good news” of the Gospel does not mean anything to someone who does not first understand the bad news!

•         Therefore, if we preach the good news of God’s salvation in Christ without first conveying the bad news of God’s judgement on the sins of all men, we have not given an adequate presentation of the Gospel!

 

•        The Bible teaches that every thought that we have had, every word that we have spoken, and every deed that we have done will be brought to light and judged by God on that Day:

–      Matthew 12:36-37 - But I tell you that men will have to give account on the day of judgment for every careless word they have spoken. For by your words you will be acquitted, and by your words you will be condemned.

–      Luke 12:2-3 - There is nothing concealed that will not be disclosed, or hidden that will not be made known. What you have said in the dark will be heard in the daylight, and what you have whispered in the ear in the inner rooms will be proclaimed from the roofs.

–      2 Corinthians 5:10 - For we must all appear before the judgment seat of Christ, that each one may receive what is due him for the things done while in the body, whether good or bad.

–      Hebrews 4:13 - Nothing in all creation is hidden from God's sight Everything is uncovered and laid bare before the eyes of him to whom we must give account.
