Romans 2:22 - The Jews Were Guilty of Adultery

•        Adultery - You who say that people should not commit adultery, do you commit adultery? (Romans 2:22)

•        Numerous examples can be found in both the Old and New Testament of Jews who were guilty of both physical adultery (violating the marriage covenant) as well as spiritual adultery (worshipping other gods):

–      Psalm 50:18 - When you see a thief, you join with him; you throw in your lot with adulterers.

–      Jeremiah 5:7-9 - "Why should I forgive you? Your children have forsaken me and sworn by gods that are not gods. I supplied all their needs, yet they committed adultery and thronged to the houses of prostitutes. They are well-fed, lusty stallions, each neighing for another man's wife. Should I not punish them for this?" declares the LORD. "Should I not avenge myself on such a nation as this?”

–      Mark 8:38 - Jesus often referred to the Jews in His day as an “adulterous generation” (cf. Matthew 12:39 and Matthew 16:4)
