Romans 2:22 - The Jews Were Guilty of Robbing Heathen Temples

Robbing Heathen Temples - You who abhor idols, do you rob temples? (Romans 2:22)

Before the Jews entered the promised land, God commanded them not to keep any of the gold or silver found on heathen idols. Thus the robbing of heathen temples was forbidden by the Law (Deuteronomy 7:25).

The Bible does not record any specific occasions when the Jews actually robbed heathen temples.

There is a possible inference in the New Testament (Acts 19:37) where the town clerk tries to calm a crowd of Ephesian worshippers of Diana by pointing out that Paul (a Jew) and his companions had not robbed the temple of Diana - possibly implying that some Jews did do such things.

Nevertheless, we have Paul’s word in this text that some of the Jews were in fact guilty of such a sin.
